Daniel Hughes, Envolve’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, was the founder of Summit Housing Partners, LLC and served as the Chief Executive Officer of BSR Trust, LLC (one of our investors) from 2008 until 2013. Prior to founding Summit in 1996, he worked in investment banking with a focus on housing and economic development. Daniel is a member of the Board of Directors of BSR REIT, a publicly-traded Real Estate Investment Trust on the Toronto stock exchange, and serves as a trustee of Alabama Heritage Fund. He is a member and current Vice Chairman of the State of Alabama College Counts Board of Directors, which oversees Alabama’s 529 College Savings Plan. He previously served as Chairman for the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce and as a trustee and executive committee member for the Alabama Real Estate Research and Education Center. Daniel received a BA in History from the University of Alabama, an MBA from Georgia State University, and is a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.
Jeff Ezekiel serves as the President of Envolve Communities, and his responsibilities include all aspects of improving the value of properties owned and operated by Envolve. Jeff was previously Chief Financial Officer of Envolve and has over 25 years of experience in the accounting industry, all within real estate. Prior to joining the Company, Jeff was employed by Hilton Worldwide as the Director of Global Budgeting and Forecasting for over 500 company-owned and managed hotels throughout the world. During his tenure with Hilton Worldwide, he held other key finance positions providing ownership support, including financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow analysis, and managing the audit process. He was an integral part of the team that converted international hotels onto the Hilton financial platform.
Mark McBrayer serves as Chief Operating Officer at Envolve. Mark started with Summit Housing Partners in the summer of 2008 as an intern, helping with the operations of our Southern Louisiana portfolio. After graduating from the University of Alabama, Mark returned to Louisiana in January 2009 and advanced to Portfolio Manager (overseeing the portfolio from New Orleans to Lake Charles). After nearly 7 years in Operations, Mark took his experience and day-to-day operating knowledge to become an Acquisitions Officer for Envolve Communities. Here, Mark’s focus was building relationships outside of Envolve, sourcing deals for acquisition, and being exposed to the financing and purchase of these properties. Mark transitioned to his current role in 2021, where he works with Operations to help maximize the value of our portfolio properties. He brings a wealth of experience in Operations, building relationships, sourcing opportunities, and underwriting communities to this position.
Debbie Workman serves as the Senior Vice President, Portfolio Director for the conventional, tax credit, bond financed, project-based Section 8, Section 236 and Senior Housing properties owned by Envolve Communities. She also has oversight of the Envolve Compliance Department Director and team. Her experience includes overseeing more than 90 properties in several states, including Regional Managers and support teams; new property builds including lease-up, tax credit acquisition, and rehabilitation of existing sites; development and implementation of policies and procedures; financial planning to maintain assets; and increasing cash flow. Prior to joining the Company in 2008, Debbie was Vice President of Operations for another tax credit-based company, Southwest Housing, for five years—focusing on new construction, lease up, conversion to permanent loans, and operational management. Her experience also includes working for the REIT organization, AIMCO, for 17 years in various management positions, including Regional Vice President of Operations in Colorado and Texas. Debbie has been in the apartment industry for over 30 years and has earned certifications of HCCP, CAM, CAPPS, and COS.
Michael serves as the Senior Vice President of Investments & Planning for Envolve Communities. In this role, he is primarily responsible for directing and coordinating analytics and quality control functions across the Company’s development, acquisitions, asset management, finance, and accounting teams in furtherance of Envolve’s investment and planning objectives. Michael also serves as chair of Envolve’s investment committee. Prior to joining Envolve, Michael was Head of Asset Management for Equity Resource Investments, LLC (“ERI”), a real estate private equity firm. In this role, Michael directed the firm’s asset management and underwriting activities while sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and closing new joint venture investments for private equity investment funds. Michael has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and other industry trade journals. He has also participated as a panelist at real estate industry conferences and contributed to academic studies related to the valuation of minority interest investments. Michael received his BA in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley.
Andrea Jordan serves as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Envolve Communities. Andrea’s responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of Human Resources which includes payroll, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, recognition & benefits, workers compensation, policy and procedures, and FMLA. Andrea has been with the Company for 23 years and has held multiple roles in accounting and compliance. She has over 18 years of experience in Human Resources and Payroll. Andrea is a graduate of Auburn University of Montgomery (BA in Education) and received her Master’s in Human Resource Management from Troy University of Montgomery. Andrea also holds the designation of PHR (Professional in Human Resources) and SHRM-CP. She is currently a chapter member of the Montgomery and National Chapters of SHRM and sits on the Board of Directors for the Montgomery SHRM Chapter as their Membership Director.
Kea Calame serves as the Senior Vice President of Asset Management for Envolve and has been with the company since 2006. She manages all activities involved in tax credit and structured financing of multifamily assets for the Company. Kea’s duties include the selection of potential acquisitions as well as the underwriting and financing of all owned and operated assets. Her experience includes the financing of both conventional and affordable assets, as well as extensive Section 8 preservation and restructuring. Kea has over 15 years of experience in all aspects of multifamily financing. Prior to her current position, she held the titles of Vice President of Development, Senior Development Officer, and Development Officer. Before joining Envolve, Kea was a Senior Asset Management Analyst for Collateral Mortgage Capital, a multi-family lending firm located in Birmingham, Alabama. As Senior Asset Management Analyst, Kea managed the company’s construction loans for both Agency and FHA financed transactions.
Charles Paterson serves as Envolve’s General Counsel, providing legal advice, counseling, and representation. Prior to joining Envolve in 2017, Charles was an attorney and partner at Balch & Bingham, LLP. He also has served as General Counsel for KinderCare Learning Centers, Inc./The Enstar Group, Inc. Charles has experience representing clients in civil litigation and commercial transactions in various industries, including securities, corporate finance, corporate governance, construction, insurance, solid waste, and environmental. He received a BA in Commerce and Business Administration as well as a JD from the University of Alabama. Charles has served as an arbitrator on the AAA Panel of Neutrals since 1995 and served as advocate or arbitrator in numerous AAA, securities industry, and private or court-mandated arbitrations.
